Gratitude Walks- Physically and Spiritually Stronger

Gratitude walks are a great way to get physically and spiritually stronger.  It’s a chance to put on your sneakers and go outside while also feeling grateful for yourself and everyone, and everything around you.  Below are my tips on how to get the most out of this practice.  There are different variations of these walks.  Set your intention and let’s explore our options.

First, make sure to wear comfortable shoes.  You don’t want to be hobbling around with sore feet while trying to be grateful for the beauty of the world. Trust me, I learned that one the hard way.  Also make sure to take some water or other hydrating drink in case you get thirsty along the way.

Next, choose a location that inspires you.  Whether it’s a serene park or a bustling city street, pick a place that makes you feel grateful just by being there.  This place can be far or near your house.  And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, try a gratitude hike instead.  It’s like a gratitude walk, but with more sweat and breathtaking views.

Now, let’s talk about the actual gratitude part.  It’s easy to say “I’m grateful for this” and “I’m grateful for that,” but really feel it in your bones.  Take a deep breath and fully appreciate the beauty of the world around you.  Be grateful for who you are and for being able to stand where you are.  As you walk and breath, appreciate yourself from head to toe.  Send love to your head, brain, hair, skin, neck, heart, chest, arms, stomach, reproductive organs, legs and feet.  Just see in your minds eye the wellness and light coming into each part of your body.

Sharing a gratitude walk with a friend is another great way to connect, share, and expand your gratitude practice.  Share the things you’re grateful for and inspire each other to see the world through a grateful lens.  Maybe afterwards you can expand the practice by sharing a cup of coffee or tea together.  As you drink your coffee or tea just sip and enjoy the simplicity of the moment.  Appreciate each other for taking the time to enjoy the moment and each other.

Gratitude walks are a wonderful way to promote mindfulness and well-being.  And they’re free! So put on your walking shoes and go outside.  Take a moment to breathe and appreciate the beauty of those around you, who you are, and world around you.
